The 2007 season will mark Fredi Gonzalez's first as manager of the Florida Marlins...he was named the ninth manager in franchise history on October 3, 2006, replacing Joe Girardi... his first game will mark his managerial debut at the Major League level...has a career record of 628-596 (.513) in 10 seasons as a manager at the minor league level...Spent the last five seasons (2002-06) in the Atlanta Braves organization, including the last four seasons as third base coach at the Major League level...managed the Triple-A Richmond Braves to a 75-67 second-place finish in 2002...He returns for his 11th season with the Marlins, where he served as third base coach at the Major League level from 1999-2001...he managed for seven seasons in the Marlins organization from 1992-1998... managed Portland (AA) to a 79-63 record and first-place finish in 1997...was selected by Baseball America as the Eastern League Manager of the Year in 1997...was recognized by Baseball America as the Florida State League Manager of the Year in 1994, after going 78-61 with Brevard County (A) and finishing second to Tampa in the FSL championship series...was Baseball America's California League Manager of the Year in 1993, guiding High Desert (A) to an 85-52 mark en route to becoming California League Champions...that championship in 1993 marked the first ever by a Marlins' affiliate...received the Carl Barger Player Development Person of the Year Award in 1993...was named the first minor league manager in Marlins history, leading the 1992 Erie (A) club to a 40-37 record en route to the New York-Penn League championship series...Began his managerial career in 1990, taking over the unaffiliated Miami Miracle (A) of the Florida State League with 20 games remaining on their schedule...he continued his post as manager of the Miracle in 1991.

Playing Career:
Selected by the New York Yankees in the 16th round of the 1982 June draft, and spent six seasons as a catcher in the Yankees farm system...had career average of .192 (188x945) with 20 home runs and 118 RBI in 344 games...made professional debut with Bradenton (A) in 1982, batting .240 (31x129) with two home runs and 16 RBI in 40 games...played the 1983 and 1984 seasons with Greensboro (A)...hit .192 (29x151) with career-high six homers and 23 RBI in 56 games in 1983, and .196 (49x250) with three home runs and career-best 11 doubles and 33 RBI in 85 games during the 1984 season...hit .204 (28x137) with three homers and 13 RBI in 48 games with Ft. Lauderdale (A) in 1985...returned to Ft. Lauderdale for 1986 season, and hit .197 (31x157) with three home runs and 18 RBI in 55 games, before he was transferred to Albany (A)...batted .286 (12x42) with three home runs and eight RBI in 18 games with Albany...played final pro season in 1987, splitting time between Albany and Prince William (A)...hit .125 (6x48) with six RBI in 26 games at Albany, and .065 (2x31) with one RBI in 16 games with Prince William

Fredi Jesus Gonzalez and his wife, Pamela, have one daughter, Gabrielle (2/5/91), and one son, Alex Christopher (7/14/93)...graduated from Miamis Southridge High School in 1982.
