
Named to this position on 10/29/02, replacing Jerry Royster.....this was his first Major League managing position...Completed his fourth year as manager last season and finished in fourth place in the National League Central Division, going 75-87.....his overall record now stands at 291-356 (.450)...Recorded his 200th career victory on 8/31/05 in a 6-5 win vs. Pittsburgh, becoming the fifth manager in Brewers history to reach that mark...Has been ejected 16 times in his career as a manager, including six times last season: 5/5 at Los Angeles-NL (Jerry Layne), 5/23 at Cincinnati (Bill Welke), 6/4 vs. Washington (Jim Wolf), 6/11 vs. St. Louis (Marvin Hudson), 6/30 at Minnesota (Brian ONora) and 8/31 at Houston (Tim Timmons)...Managed in the minor leagues for the Atlanta Braves from 1988-90 at Class-A Sumter of the South Atlantic League.....went 197-223 (.469).
Coaching Career:
Spent 12 seasons on the Major League coaching staff of the Braves from 1991-2002...Atlanta won their division in each season that Yost was on the staff with the exception of the strike-shortened 1994 season...Was bullpen coach for Atlanta from 1991-98 and then third-base coach from 1999-2002.
Playing Career:
Played six seasons in the Major Leagues with Milwaukee (1980-83), Texas (1984) and Montreal (1985)...The former catcher appeared in 219 games, batting .212 with 16 HR and 64 RBI...Was a member of the 1982 American League Champion Brewers..Smacked his only home run of the 1982 season on 9/29 at Boston.....the ninth-inning, 3-run shot over the Green Monster off Mark Clear helped to give the Brewers a 4.0-game lead with five games to play...Was originally drafted by New York-NL in 1974 (first round, secondary phase)...Was acquired by the Brewers in the Rule 5 Draft in December, 1977...Finished his playing career in the Braves minor-league system in 1987.

Is married.....wifes name is Deborah.....the couple has a daughter, Jenny, and three sons, Ned IV, Josh and Andrew...Graduated from Dublin (CA) High School in 1972...Was team captain and Most Valuable Player on the baseball team in his junior and senior years...Lettered in baseball at Chabot Junior College...His father, Ned, was an All-American football player at Santa Rosa Junior College in California...Was inducted into the Central Wisconsin Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004...Wears uniform number 3 as a tribute to his close friend, the late Dale Earnhardt.....worked on Earnhardts pit crew as a re-hydration engineer during occasional Nascar races...Earned the Nice Guy Award at the 2005 Red Smith Sports Award Banquet in front of 1,800 guests in Appleton, WI...Son Ned plays in the Brewers Minor League system...Is an avid hunter.
